
Effect of CPE chlorinated polyethylene on the processing performance of PVC
CPE chlorinated polyethylene is a product obtained by chlorinating a special high-density polyethylene, in which the chlorine atoms partially replace the hydrogen atoms on the HDPE molecular chain. After drying, it becomes a white powder and non-toxic.
When the addition amount of cpe chlorinated polyethylene is less than 5PHR, the plasticization is delayed, while at 5PHR, it has little effect on the plasticization of the formulation system. When cpe chlorinated polyethylene exceeds 5PHR, it plays a role in promoting plasticization. With the increase of CPE, the plasticizing time of the formula becomes shorter, the maximum plasticizing torque and equilibrium torque increase, and the plasticizing temperature gradually decreases.
The chlorine content of CPE chlorinated polyethylene is 35%. Its structure has two parts: one is the chlorination part, where the hydrogen atom is replaced by the chlorine atom. This part has a sturdy structure, similar to PVC, and has good compatibility. The other is the PE segment, where hydrogen atoms are not replaced by chlorine atoms. This structure has weak polarity and poor compatibility with PVC. It serves as an external lubrication between PVC and can delay the plasticization of PVC.
The glass transition temperature of CPE chlorinated polyethylene is about 10 ° C, and that of PVC is 80 ° C. Under test conditions, the softening trend of CPE is earlier than that of PVC, and its viscosity is slightly higher.
When the addition amount of CPE chlorinated polyethylene is low, the total amount of polar chain segments with good compatibility between CPE and PVC is small, and the external lubrication of PE chain segments is dominant, and the plasticization of the delay system is delayed.With the increase of CPE chlorinated polyethylene, the softening of a large number of CPE chlorinated polyethylene molecules and higher viscosity promote the viscosity of the entire formula system. At this point, the influence of cpe chlorinated polyethylene on the viscosity of the entire material overcomes the external lubrication of the PE segment in the structure. Therefore, the entire formula system begins to plasticize at a lower temperature, thereby promoting the plasticization of the material.
